Health Care Reform & Upper Cervical Docs

Great things happening in Upper Cervical. It is always interesting to find out what caused the patient’s most recent atlas subluxation. Last week a patient reported to me that on a very hot night with the screened window open, she started sleepwalking and walked out the window, face first onto the redwood deck. So reminded me of those Friday nights at college!!!

Last week I mentioned that Dr. Jeff Gilbert of Des Moines, IA needed a side posture table and Blair headclamps but didn’t include his contact info. Here it is: 515-971-4161  drjeff@gilbertwellness.com

He also wrote me:
“Just got back from a great morning spent with Dr.John Hilpisch.  See you next weekend.” If they went to lunch together, you’d better believe John got alligator arms once that check was placed on the table!!!

What he meant by see you next weekend is the Blair Primary Dr. Todd Hubbard Todd.Hubbard@palmer.edu and I are giving on campus this Sat. Hope you can be there and, considering the August Iowa weather, you should be able to exercise those pores rather vigorously!!!

Probably the biggest complaint we hear is, “Where it the UC research?” Here is what is happening on the Palmer Iowa campus according to Dr. Hubbard:

Palmer College is currently recruiting patients for their Blair Upper Cervical care on fibromyalgia patients. This is a feasibility study looking at the outcome of care on patients receiving Blair care verses a sham cervical adjustment.

Dr. Todd Hubbard is waiting to hear any minute if his pediatric cyclic vomiting case report is accepted for publication in The journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. This is a case report of a 7 year old female whose cyclic vomiting episodes were stopped by using the  Duff  Neural Canal x-ray analysis. The Blair Chiropractic Society teaches the Duff x-ray analysis for pediatric patients.

Dr. Hubbard, Dr. Casey Crisp and Brett Vowels (student) are currently writing a case report on a female epileptic patient whose seizures has have stopped since her Blair care began. Just got this 5 minutes ago:

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I talked to my graduate committee today. They are going to approve the change of topics for my research. I am now going to do an:

Inter and Intra reliability study on the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic X-ray analysis protocol.

This is huge. Basically we will reproduce the Addington study and have it go through because it is my practicum. I will get guidance on writing the manuscript which will guarantee publication. Almost too good to be true.

The support we are getting from the students for UC continues to increase. Check out what Life Blair Club prez Lauren Milman has to say about life on campus:

Another round of a Blair Advanced has just wrapped up here in Marietta! This weekend both Sherman and Life students got together for another great Blair-unifying session! We all are on FIRE and can’t WAIT for the Conference in September! We have so many students currently interested in learning Blair that Dr. Susan Hooper will need to host ANOTHER Advanced course to accommodate the need in October (exact date TBA). We wanted to let all the UC docs around the country know that the UC buzz around the Life campus is continuing to grow. The Blair Club was invited to present our technique to the student body at the first ever Life Technique Night, along with other much MUCH larger clubs on campus (I would have expected them to push us back to Weeks 2 or 3, but the first night makes me excited!!) So the word is being spread.

On behalf of both Sherman and Life Blair Clubs, we look forward to seeing everyone in September!! (at the Atlanta Blair Conference…details www.blairchiropractic.com )

Another future doc super excited about Upper Cervical is Parker student Brandon Harshe and he has some equipment for sale:

  • X-ray developer/processor- $500
  • Full x-ray unit- includes tilting bucky, standard headclamps (not Blair) 3 viewboxes, free-standing lead shield, x-ray chair, 2 boxes of 14×17 film, cassettes… unit overall is pretty old, but still works fine… $5,000 for everything.
  • 3 resting tables, 1 of which is a spinalator- $300
  • Hylo Table- needs a little work- $1,000
  • Posture Constant Chair- in perfect condition- $500
  • DermaThermaGraph- includes box with paper… I have a second
  • DermaThermaGraph, but 1 screw has been mutilated and I haven’t been able to remove to replace the paper… if you want it, it’s yours- $150
  • 2 Rock Tables- 1 needs hydraulic oil (I think), the other needs the headpiece put back together- $400

Everything is in an air-conditioned storage unit in Fort Worth, TX. This equipment belonged to Sterling Pruitt, Jr for years. His wife sold it to me back in May. Like I said, I am moving away from DFW and will not be using any of this equipment. You will have to come pick it up if you buy it. You can email me atbrandon@theatlasoflife.com if interested. Make sure you check out his great UC site regardless!

While on the subject of UC things for sale, the dynamic Texas UC Orthospinologist Dr. Bart Patzer, tries to keep historic UC practices moving forward to serve lifelong UC patients after the DC passes on. Here are two to think about:

Practice for Sale

San Angelo, Texas

Continue a legacy (doctor retiring) in a beautiful historic building that was built as a chiropractic clinic in 1930. Successful upper cervical practice for sale or available for associateship –to purchase in the great city of San Angelo, TX. Abundance of trees, lakes and friendly hometown environment. Great place to raise a family. Must have experience in Grostic, Nucca, Orthospinonlogy, Atlas Orthoganal, or Blair. Train with one of the top upper cervical specific teams in the world and begin living your dream. Contact BJ Patzer at (512) 619-7267 or email resume to patzer1@flash.net.

Practice for Sale

Lubbock/Floydada , Texas

A legacy continues for this practice of 55 years. Most patients have been coming 30+ years and have always paid cash. The doctor has retired, but patients are still seen by 2 DC’s twice a month. This area was once home to the largest concentrated area of upper cervical doctors in the SW United States. This practice is the last one of those standing. The demand and awareness in this area is high and underserved. It’s always said “the people out here are great, and so friendly. Lubbock is has a large university and is a retail hub for the surrounding agriculture , ranching country. Must have Grostic, NUCCA, Orthospinology, Atlas Orthoganal training, or Blair.  Call now for easy , immediate income and regular committed patients to BJ Patzer,DC 512.619.7267 or email at patzer1@flash.net

Dr. John Goodfellow, HIO doc from Chicago, wrote me: “I haven’t added anything to my website in a long long time, but I just uploaded a three page PDF on spinographic interpretation. www.drgoodfellow.com and click on Chiropractic Student. Perhaps this might be of some interest to your students.”

Dr. Patrick Newhouse forwarded an article which I’ve attached which is a “call to action” regarding a Federal Health Bill fundings for psych treatment. I am totally in favor of those in Washington having ANY mental health treatment available!!!

I think I’m being way to happy today, so why not a dose of reality. Dr. Roger Morrison forwarded an e-mail which I’ve attached (OUR FUTURE, OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE) which is a summary of the proposed National Health Care program. Our family was arguing this subject last night as my son-in-law from a country which has National Health Care swears the system can work and that it will mainly be for the impoverished and uninsured with the rest of the system intact. His concern is that unless insurance companies go ‘non-profit’, they can’t be regulated and rates can be set on a whim. Thus they serve the shareholders (maximize profits) vs. the patient (cut costs, cut quality care). He quoted a Texas study which showed 9% of insurance monies actually went to “health care” while the remainder went to “administrative fees”….i.e. CEO portfolios!!!

While on the subject of National Health Care, check out the site Dr. Mike Thompson sent me www.freeourhealthcare.com and you will discover a petition signed already by almost 1 million people aimed at minimizing government takeover of your health care rights. Check it out!

Dr.Bryan Duff, of the famous UC Duff family, is in need of an associate in his Northern California office. Here are his needs: I would greatly appreciate you posting an email that I am looking for 1-2 associates to train/share office SPACE ON OFF DAYS. T/TH/SAT+. for Novato [MARIN OFFICE] STRAIGHT U.C. only of course. You can contact him at BDUFF10203@hotmail.com I listed the wrong address last time I posted this….sorry—must have been subluxated!

Dr. Drew Hall has been seeing some amazing recoveries. Here are the latest:

Had a guy who is an immigration lawyer……..6 months ago he woke up with excruciating sciatica..it got to a point where the pain was so severe they hospitalized him and gave him some narcotic I had never heard of ………It damn near killed the guy. He had a horrible reaction and at one point his family was planning the funeral….. Well he came out of it and was left with a severe head tremor, hands shaking to the point that he was unable to write legibly and still had severe sciatica to the point where he can’t work. Well innate adjusted his atlas and he came back 4 days later with 80 percent reduction in pain. His head tremor was gone and he is pretty much a happy camper!

Forgot to tell you this one also………I have been taking care of this guy for three months……he came in with severe bi lateral leg neuropathy to the point he couldn’t walk for more than 3 minutes without sitting down…. Chronic constipation, allergies, low energy , insomnia etc etc etc He has had one adjustment and has cleared 90 percent of the symptoms….but here is the great part of the story…. he was on his brand new inversion table he bought off the Internet last week at a 70 percent angle the caribeaner broke and he landed upside down on his head/shoulder. I checked him 4 times and could find nothing………. and he wasn’t someone who was off 1/4 of an inch! he was off like 5/8 when he first came in ………..go figure!

So Dr. Fred Harkins called me the other day to tell me a story about a lady who has been under care for about 3 years! I think he said three years….. She has worn bi-focals for 20 years. Well in the past week or so all of a sudden her vision normalized! From what Fred told me they have records from the optometrist and of course that doc said that it was impossible what happened…..Fortunately Innate doesn’t hold the same opinion!!!

Socialized Medicine & BJ Palmer

There is so much talk about “Socialized Medicine” that we all think this is a new idea. Make sure you read ALL of BJ’s response which I’ve attached on the subject as you will see he was light years ahead of everyone else. Here is a snippet from BJ’s Fight to Climb:

Question 161. How will passage of the proposed socialized medicine bill before Congress affect Chiropractors?

Answer 161. Doctors and patients will become machines to be ground out like sausage links. Individual initiative will not exist. People will line up like people going to a movie, waiting to buy a chance at getting a series of forms to be filled in. D.C. will spend time signing forms galore….No matter how many corners everybody is compelled to twist around, patient pays, and pays, and pays, and in long run pays more under government supervision than he would if he paid direct.

I thank Dr. Kevin Leach of San Marino and Dr. Joey Miles for researching and forwarding this info to me.

Bogus Chiropractic Medicare Fraud

In case you think “more government is good government” have you heard of RAC? RAC stands for “Recovery Audit Contractors.” These are contractors hired by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to audit and recover dollars to put back into the Medicare Trust Fund. They have a huge incentive as they are paid on contingency (what they recover) on a percentage basis.California, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, South Carolina and Arizona were the states chosen to pilot the RAC program – resulting in over $900 million in overpayments being returned to Medicare over the course of three years, as well as $38 million in underpayments. Under the demonstration program, the RACS were able to recover 95% of the claims they audited. (The whole concept of Medicare fraud in chiropractic is so bogus. These patients have to go somewhere to deal with their health issues. Should it be inexpensive chiropractic which can get you well and KEEP you well OR should it be costly (check out the prices of pills, surgery,…) medical care which is currently bankrupting the system?)

Swine Flu Hoax

Wanna see a brief 60 Minutes expose on the Swine Flu. They review the hoax that took place in the early 70′s and the very nasty neurological sequellae resulting in paralyzed muscles and costing the government (that’s us!) billions not only for the drugs but to pay the bills for those who were injured. Watch http://wideeyecinema.com/?p=3352 Now if you don’t think this Swine Flu issue is important, read this: Arkansas State Health Department: Mandatory Vaccines Are Constitutional A member of the public who was concerned about a mandatory mass vaccination program in light of the swine flu pandemic called the Arkansas State Health Department for advice only to be told that mandatory vaccines were constitutional and could be enforced at gunpoint by the government if necessary.Legal council tells concerned caller that American citizens must accept enforced shot in event of mass swine flu vaccination program. During the phone conversation, the legal council discusses the potential of a future mandatory swine flu vaccination program and states, “That’s constitutional, there’s no doubt about it….mandatory vaccinations are legal under the Supreme Court….absolutely.”

The caller responds, “I’m an American and I have a legal right to make my own decision whether or not someone sticks a needle in me,” to which the legal council responds, “That’s not true….no.”

Upper Cervical Associate(s) Wanted

Dr. Nancy Gronewold took our Blair classes many times at Palmer. (She kept falling asleep when I spoke so it took a few sessions for it to sink in!) Anyway she is looking for an associate or two for her 2,300 sq. ft. UC office in Iowa City. You can contact Nancy at wellspingchiropractic@gmail.com The University of Iowa Medical School has a great reputation and this could be an opportunity to educate the uneducated! Nancy did a spinal screening last week and one of the participants is a urologist at the University and the not-so-timid Dr. Gronewold said “We WILL be having lunch!!!”

Blair Advanced Seminar

Speaking of very confident and centered UC docs, Dr. Susan Hooper, PhD, D.C. will be hosting a Blair Advanced seminar in her Marietta, GA office July 25,26. You can register by contacting Dr. Hooper at sahooper@oakbridgechiropractic.com On the same subject, I would really like to implore all docs and students to sign up for the Palmer Blair seminar series which will be starting August 1-2. You only have one week to sign up as the cut-off date is July 13…no extension. You will not only get an excellent overview of the Blair technique but also learn to mark regular Blair views and digital Blairs. You do not have to be a Palmer student to attend! The Palmer Blair series is scheduled for Aug. 1,2 for the Primary, Sept. 5,6 for Intermediate, and Oct. 9,10 for the Advanced. You can contact Mindy or Bridgett at 563-884-5647 to register. Dr. Todd Hubbard is giving a Blair Advanced seminar at Dr. Mike Thompson’s Fort Worth, TX office the weekend of July 18,19 (with 16 CE credits!), so we expect him to be wearing a Stetson and teaching torque by showing rope tricks by the time the Palmer series starts!!!

How Do You Tell Your Patients, “Holding is Healing?”

Billy Doherty, the creative genius at UCHCA, was asking doctors how they present the idea that holding is healing. In other words, what do you tell a patient when they DON’T need an adjustment. You probably heard at the BJ clinic some of the patients would cry when they found out they were out of alignment, feeling the let the doctor down and the healing stopped. (My patients, of course, cry for a different reason!) Anyway, the always wild and crazy Dr. Eddie Weller responded in a very succinct manner and I hope you check out www.lumivid.com/dreddie to learn a very efficient way of answering a very complex question!!!

Caught Red-Handed – Not EEVEN Remorseful

The crime rate in Pleasanton has skyrocketed and, as you will see from my security camera pic (at the top of this article), we caught some nefarious culprit trying to egg my office….all because I don’t have a knee chest table in my adjusting room!!!

Upper Cervical Associates Mourned

Just a little practice tip for you young docs out there. Those of you who are old fashioned and don’t have digital x-rays (like me) have to process the x-rays. When Dr. Cox (my associate) mentioned to me this morning that my wife had just scrubbed the dark room floor down with ammonia, he asked “When I first stared with you, you told me that the ammonia mixes with the developing chemicals and produces cyanide gas, similar to what they use in the gas chamber. Should I be worried?” Being the caring guy that I am, I mentioned. “No don’t worry, if you keel over, Dr. Hollowell will cover for you!!!”

Before you start feeling sorry for my associates, I did teach them how to perform the Ely test a special way in which the patient’s wallet gently slides out of their back pocket undetected, so don’t say I didn’t teach them anything!!!

Upper Cervical Testimonials

Dr. Drew Hall has been keeping me informed regarding all the great UC recoveries they are seeing in his LA office. Here is the latest:30 year old male diagnosed chronic fatigue syndrome, 12-14 hours of sleep a night which is unrestored, wakes up in am feeling like crap and never feels rested. He is pale & has a pasty appearance. He can’t work or do daily activities, so you can imagine his self esteem and feelings of being productive are at an all time low! He has been to five chiros and really didn’t notice any improvements. He has seem many MD’s (More Drugs, More Deaths!) Acupuncture, nutrition therapy, etc etc etc were ineffective.

Adjusted ASR (right transverse contact) atlas and he came back four days later with HOPE. First morning woke up feeling restored for the first time in three years! Even thought I warned him that most new patients are absolutely exhausted following their first correction, his energy over the first four days has been better than in the past three years. His mom is now in the book and his family, who owns a bakery, is spreading the wonders UC care to the San Pedro community.

And YET THERE ARE PEOPLE IN OUR PROFESSION whose minds are so small they want to relegate us to pain specialists!!! As I have always said, “If you are too damn incompetent in getting the sick well through an ATLAS correction,… get better or go do something else! DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE something that works when applied properly , honestly, and with the right INTENTION! (I just wish this mild mannered UC doc would learn to express his feelings!!!)

Thought I’d update you on a case that started with us a month ago. You may recall I’d mentioned that a young widow brought in her three year old. The posterior arch is rammed against the occiput. This child cried one straight year! Presently he has optic nerve hypoplasia (he is legally blind and cannot see anything beyond five feet), epilepsy (100 eye blinks/hour and fist clenching and leg extensions with each seizure), cannot talk, cannot walk due to extreme balance problems. He is continually fussy and must be entertained with noisy stuffed animals or he cries and has tantrums. His atlas has been adjusted twice in a month. Last Friday his mom announced that he can now see above the horizon with clarity. He is happy and not crying continually, but still is easily provoked. He sleeps better. He can now take a step but once he realizes that he no longer is being supported by an object, fear sets in and he falls. (He is literally taking baby steps…at age three!)

Final Thoughts

If any of you can conjure up some excellent quotes, epigrams, or verses to go on the wall at Dr. Ian Bulow’s UCHCA office in Pittsburgh, why not contact him at ianbulowdc@gmail.com I did tell him about BJ’s book As A Man Thinketh which is filled with quotes and he appreciated that advice. He didn’t appreciate my favorite quote which is on a tombstone and it states SEE I TOLD YOU I WAS SICK!!!

BTW, I gave the wrong date for the start of the Life West Blair series that Dr. Hari Khalsa and I will be teaching. It will start next Wed., July 15th at 5:00 on campus. Sure glad we installed those electric stim units in the classroom seats..only way I can keep those students awake!!!

Remember The BIGNESS of Upper Cervical

June 29, 2009 by drhambrick

Elvis Presley once sung a song “I forgot to remember to forget” and to this day I’m still trying to figure out what that means!  The reason I brought that up is that many UC docs who have been in practice 2, 3, 4 + decades forget about all the dramatic recoveries they’ve seen as the years go by.  Last week I was discussing with a patient of mine, who is a psychologist, the unusual cases we’ve attracted over the past month. We have two infants under 7 months with seizure disorders; a three y/o who is legally blind, unable to walk; 24 y/o male with MS resulting in blindness…. and wanted her to understand the BIGNESS of Upper Cervical. She said, “You don’t need to convince me, I not longer have my migraines. But the thing that totally convinced me about Upper Cervical was the patient Diane _ _ _ _  that I sent in to you about three years ago. She had Lou Gehrig’s Disease and completely healed once her neck was corrected!” I forgot!!!

Did you ever think, if only the public knew what we knew, how could they ever think of not bringing their kids, spouse, parents,…in for UC care? Physically and emotionally you are such a different person when you are neurologically clear. Sadly we have presented such a confused message to the public that the word ‘chiropractic’ conjures up so many images that it confuses people and makes them not partake in this wonderful profession…so safe, so effective!  Anyway, typical of public perception of our profession, cuts are coming:

Chiropractic Cut from Coverage
Alberta, Canada
Albertans will no longer be able to claim chiropractic care starting this summer, after the government delisted chiropractor services from its provincial health plan. The cut will save approximately $53 billion per year.
Delisting chiropractic services seems to be the trend in Canada, with both British Columbia and Ontario making similar decisions in the recent past.  It is anticipated that seniors and people with low incomes will cancel appointments.
The Edmonton Journal

“It is likely that the US will follow the same thinking regarding chiropractic services if national health care reform is instituted.”  “That would save $176 million in medicare payments to chiropractors per year in the USA.”

British ad regulators pan subluxation-based
chiropractic claims
.

Last October, the British Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)
ordered the Ideal Spine Centre in Blean, Canterbury to stop claiming
that a program of periodic spinal checkups throughout life would have
an impact on resistance to disease. [ASA Adjudication, Oct 15, 2008]
http://www.casewatch.org/foreign/asa/farthing/asa_2008(2).shtml The
clinic is run by Christian H. E. Farthing, an Australian-trained
chiropractor who began practicing in the United Kingdom in 2000.
http://www.idealspinecentre.co.uk/
During ASA’s proceedings, Matthew McCoy DC, Director of Life
University, Marietta, Georgia provided a review of “vertebral
subluxation” and its application within chiropractic. He also
referenced various trials that he said showed chiropractic and
subluxation had an impact on wellness and quality of
life.

Dr. Kevin Smith forwarded an e-mail from Dr. Joe Ierano that has the usual “wasting money on unproven methods” tripe but the bottom part of the e-mail has some very favorable statistics you may want to use to show that what we do is “AT LEAST” 50% less expensive. In this economy, that is HUGE!!!

Dr. Hubbard is being a busy man. He will be teaching a Blair Intermediate/Advanced seminar in Fort Worth, TX at Dr. Mike Thompson’s office. The class is July 18,19 with 16 hrs. CE and you can contact Brandon Harshe 214-422-1867 or bharshe@parkercc.edu for registration. Make sure you wear a NY Giant jersey as Todd is a big Dallas Cowboy fan and has been getting a little ‘uppity” lately!

Speaking of seminars, Dr. Rob Kessinger has a KCUCS Adjusting seminar coming in Davenport, Iowa July 24,25 (see attachment) The Isle of Capri is the name of the hotel and attached gambling boat where he will be holding this seminar. I wonder if they all use clockwise torque if the boat will rotate in the water???

Speaking of Knee Chest technique, anybody have a spare table for sale? Dr. Nick Tedder is looking for one:Can you put in your next newsletter that I am looking to purchase a used knee chest table; Kale or KCUCS! My contact info is:
Nick Tedder, DC
404-202-7741
drtedder@getwellga.com

Last week I’d mentioned the DACBR’s (chiro radiologists) got their “no analytical x-rays” policy published, which it the antithesis of how an UC doc practices. Dr. Ian Bulow, UCHC in Pittsburgh, wrote me that he had a woman who wanted to start care but was concerned about x-ray exposure. Her brother-in-law is a rad tech. Here is what I wrote him:

Anyway, according to the ICA X-ray guidelines 2007 (primarily authored by Harrison of the Biophysics technique) states that a standard set of cervical x-rays is on average 100 millirems (mrem) Acceptable exposure per year is 5000 mrems. You have digital, so your figures are probably lower. If you want the whole study check out www.pccrp.org To put that exposure amount in perspective, a coast to coast plane trip is 10 mrems.

Ok, now some good news. Dr. Jake Hollowell, Life West grad in my office who is perfecting his Sicilian in preparation for running the soon to be opened UCHC clinic in Sicily, told me about an interesting case of his. He spoke to a Fibromyalgia Support Group and the head of that group became a patient. About three months into care she has finally rid herself of all medication, is feeling fantastic due to the atlas corrections,  and no longer wants to go to the group meetings because all they talk about is medication there. Anyway she went to Southern California to bid farewell to her father who is suffering from dementia and so many other health problems she felt her father would probably have to be placed in a nursing home or may be near the end of his life span. Her friends said she looked fantastic, so she decided to take her father to see Dr. Frank Conley in Canoga Park, CA. Frank attended many of Dr. Muncy’s seminars and is very exacting in his work. Get this—two weeks into care and the man’s dementia is 90% better!!!

Dr. Hollowell has another patient who was very reluctant to start UC care but did so to keep from having to sleep in the doghouse! At his wife’surging, he started care and the headaches quickly resolved. The man noticed that his persistently high blood pressure plummeted 30 points and has stayed normal. Seeing the cardiologist three to four times last month and rebuffing the doctors idea of taking the medication “even though he didn’t need it”, the man finally tossed the medication to the MD and said, “You take it!”

As we continue to hear about the Swine Flu, every now and then a scientist will put these “disasters” in perspective. Attached is an article from a newspaper, the Herald, in Australia sent to me by that super UC advocate Greg Buchanan. (YOU ALL SHOULD HAVE HIS - IS YOUR HEAD ON STRAIGHT? Could this be a silent epidemic? brochure in your office which has the site www.upcspine.com on it so your patients and perspective patients can get a very thorough explanation of UC and a referral directory for their friends and family located in other cities.)

I think most of us seasoned UC docs have all dreamed of having a multi-technique UC clinic, as nobody can be an expert at all the methods…jack of all trades, master of noneDr. Drew Hall is the president of the Blair Society but took in an intern on the Life West Preceptor program who happens to practice knee chest.  Debbie Benlien started her first patient and here is what Drew wrote:

debbies first patient
came from a screening and the lady has had wrist arthritis for 15 years……… to the point where she was grimacing in consultation holding her wrist the whole time headaches for 5 years , nervousness, and a whole host of other problems…….

Anyway she adjusted her axis knee chest and the lady came out of the rest area with a gigantic smile on her face…. Her headache was gone….

comes back second visit……….graph as straight as can be, no wrist pain…… headache better…. nervousness gone…and needless to say very happy……

Not bad for your first adjustment……….

Take care-

Tom

It’s Never Too Late For Upper Cervical Chiropractic

June 22, 2009 by drhambrick

forestNow if I were over in Italy (technically, San Marino) I think I would probably would be sitting at an outdoor cafe sipping a cappuccino and observing sacro-iliac movements on the local females! Not Dr. Kevin Leach, nope…he is busy reading and studying and sent me the excerpts you will see below at the bottom of this e-mail from the new Lee Iacocca book. Great reading!!!

Not so great reading is a junk science article that Kevin sent me that I listed below about cold water causing heart attacks and reasoning that the Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea following their meals and the ‘temperature’ of the fluids play a major role in pathology of the cardiac system.. As our healthy fast foods infiltrate those countries, it will be interesting to see if a warm fluid or cold one is best to consume while downing that Big Mac!!!

While on the subject of suspicious studies, you may want to check the latest Dynamic Chiropractic and you will see the DACBR’s got their version of Chiropractic Radiology Standards published and accepted with the same old “red flag” rules. We were really pulling for the ICA version (www.pccrp.org ) I know we have rehashed this subject ad nauseum but HOW DO YOU KNOW THERE IS A SPINAL PATHOLOGY, ANOMALY, OR CONTRAINDICATION to adjusting unless you film the patient? Also, how do you know what direction that vital atlas has displaced? Guess I’ll sell my x-ray unit and buy some lucky dice!!!

Now a nice study was published in JMPT March/April 2009 Vol. 32, Issue 3 titled Interexaminer Reliability of a Leg-Length Analysis Among Novice and Experienced Practitioners Holt, Russell, et al. This study was performed at the New Zealand Chiropractic College with 50 participants ages 18-55. Tests were prone- legs straight and with knees flexed. They found “substantial agreement” and concluded: “This study revealed good interexaminer reliability of all aspects of leg length analysis protocol used in the study.”

Those of you who are insured by NCMIC, should check out the latest issue (Summer 2009) as you will find the “red flags enforcement” which deals with credit card fraud in medical offices and our need to be compliant by 8-1-09 check out www.nbac.com for the info. In the same issue there is an interesting case of a step-mother suing her DC stepson for malpractice. OUCH. Their conclusion, don’t take shortcuts with anyone…fellow DCs, next door neighbor, family…Hey, I made my mom sign an informed consent!!!

This past Monday things were a bit busy as both the waiting rooms were filled, the consultation room was packed, and two patients were waiting on the front porch. (Hey, free chicken dinners packs the office every time!) Dr. Cox brought back an egg with writing on it and said someone wanted to see me. The writing said ASRA, don’t break me!, so I knew it wasn’t the local MD! Turned out Dr. B.J. Kale and his young clinic director Dr. Tron Malachowski stopped by as they were later going to meet local Pleasanton resident, Dr. Shawn Dill for dinner.  Great seeing both talented UC docs. I did call the restaurant and told them to remove the chairs so these knee chest docs would have to kneel while they dined!!!

One of the top UC researchers and instructors we have in the profession is Dr. Robert Brooks. I’m forwarding what he sent me regarding what is happening in NUCCA news: The recent edition of the NUCCA News electronic newsletter (sent to more than 600 chiropractors) recently broke news of the Council on Upper Cervical Care and gave a call for membership in the council.  If you haven’t seen the NUCCA News you may wish to access it online at <http://www.nucca.org/newsletter/index.php> The Upper Cervical Research Foundation is devoted to developing and facilitating comprehensive research to investigate the relationship between the biomechanical and neurological balance of the upper cervical spine and its profound effect on human health and well being.

The new patient we saw Tuesday afternoon came in with an interesting problem, for the past six months every time he would drink wine or beer, he’d get a sharp headache pain spreading from the right C-1 region to the right eye. I call it the “Homer Simpson Syndrome.” Anyway pre adjustment his blood pressure was 175/112 (we checked it twice) and immediately post adjustment 144/95. Guess that Dickholtz guy knows what he’s talking about!!!

Those of you who didn’t sleep through my Upper Cervical Evolution talk (both of you!) may recall that I wrapped up the talk showing you the “world’s oldest subluxation” as I showed pics and told the story of a man whose chest was run over by a car at age three. Photos of him from age 5, through the army in WWII, until recently showed this 80 y/o man with a massive tilted pelvis…and probably a 77 y/o subluxation. I’ve attached a letter and photo he sent me yesterday and it is nice to see that…it is never too late for Upper Cervical!!!

The strange thing about practicing Upper Cervical is that you get the most interesting cases one after another (as mentioned below at the Liboiron chiropractic clinic in Texas.) Last week we had a consultation with a 24 y/o man who has been diagnosed with MS and has been legally blind as a result of the condition for 6 years…all following a head trauma. Today we had a man from Afghanistan whose son developed a very high fever at two months and is now at age 13 in a wheelchair, legs curled in, arms tonicallly contracted, cannot speak, cannot crawl or walk, and according to the local Children’s Hospital the MRI shows a film/membrane over the brain inhibiting its capacity to fire. Life gets more curious every day in an Upper Cervical clinic!  I would implore all precision oriented chiropractic students to seriously look at being a UC specialist and Rock the World with miracles every day!!!

Last week I wrapped up my e-mail by forwarding an amazing series of events in Dr. Tabetha and Gerard Liboiron’s Round Rock, Tx clinic which started with the son of an MD who was going to be booted out of the army due to severe arm pain (resolved with UC care) only to have that man refer his wife, who had miscarried 3X, in for care. She is now 26 weeks pregnant,… Anyway the local news picked up the story regarding  Menieres and sight recovery cases under their UC care and did a brief TV spot on the subject. Here it is:http://ww2.kwtx.com/global/video/flash/popupplayer.asp?clipId1=3834565&at1=News&vt1=v&h1=On+your+Side:+Upper+Cervical+Care&d1=127233&redirUrl=www.kwtx.com&activePane=info&

Disregard the thoracic manipulation in the video, Gerard informed me that he slipped, fell forward, put his arms out to catch himself, and his hands just accidentally landed on T-5 (ha ha)

GOLDEN HEART AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Upper Cervical Oriented Director of Oklahaven, Dr. Bobby Doscher.

Oklahoma City, OK – “Oklahaven” Children’s Chiropractic Center is proud to announce the winners of the “Golden Heart” Awards. Cleveland Chiropractic College in Kansas City, Missouri and Fisher Chiropractic Center in Miami, Florida were the top participants in the 10th Annual Have-A-Heart Campaign. This worldwide event is held every February during Valentine’s Week to benefit “Oklahaven” and to increase the awareness of the healing power of chiropractic for the children.“I thank the chiropractic profession who has enabled us to continue our mission of restoring health to children and to spread the message of hope to searching parents. With everyone’s help, we are making a real difference in the lives of children throughout the world,” says Dr. Bobby Doscher, Director and C.E.O of “Oklahaven” Children’s Chiropractic Center.

Dr. Patrick Newhouse sent me a recent article on vaccinations the stats are pretty appalling. Check this out:

NUMBERS: From 1974 – 2004 the number of doses of government

recommended vaccines given to American children before age five have almost

doubled from 23 doses of seven vaccines to 39 doses of 12 vaccines.

During this time there has been:

1. A doubling of learning disabilities, ADHD, and asthma.
2. A tripling of diabetes.
3. A 200% to 7,000% increase in autism in every state.
4. In 1970, autism affected four in 10,000 American children. Now it’s

one out of 1:150.
5. In 1979, two-million children suffered from asthma. Today the
number is nine million.
6. In 1976, there were 796,000 learning-disabled children in
America’s public schools. Today the number is three million.
7. In 1997, ADHD was reported to effect 1.6 million American
school-aged children. Today, the number is four million.
8. From 1945-1969, juvenile diabetes (Type 1) afflicted one in every
7,100 children. Today, it’s one in every 400-500. Adult onset diabetes
(Type 2) is mysteriously on the rise in children with no explanation.
9. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis was so rare they didn’t even keep
statistics on it. Today 300,000 are afflicted, and one in three Americans
suffer from it

Wanna see another great video promoting UC care? Check out:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twjfd7UHqLY and you will see a very concised explanation of Upper Cervical. Nice to know, according to the A.M.A., that we are “JUST AS EFFECTIVE AS MASSAGE!!!”

OK docs, I know you are all tired of my lame jokes and exhausting diatribes, but a lot of the chiro colleges spam filters block my weekly e-mails (everybody’s a critic!) when they are sent to the students. Therefore, those who aren’t on my list or their e-mails are getting blocked can now get the UC info by checking out Dr. Paul Hambrick’s site:Now, I’m proud to announce to you that starting today, you can read his weekly emails by going to http://www.uppercervicaldocs.com/blog/category/upper-cervical-forest/ I know to most of you this announcement is like getting a root canal, but I really do appreciate Dr. Hambricks efforts and maybe, just maybe we can get some of those full spine docs who are just seeing backache cases to read about the amazing things happening in the upper cervical world. Spread the word!!!

Greg Buchanan sent me a letter “supposedly” written by President Barack Obama on his policy regarding chiropractic. I’ve attached it so you can check it out.  I expect to see a toggle table in the Green Room in no time!!!

If you wonder where Blair Society prez and raconteur Dr. Drew Hall has been, he has been working super long hours in his LA practice and turning Hollywood on to UC. One of his patients is a young star of a very popular TV series and 80% of her lupus symptoms have resolved. She is very excited about her new life. Recently Drew has provided care for an executive (second in command) of one of the largest movie companies, game show executive, … Today a movie and TV actress who has dozens of films to her credit will be starting care. Oddly enough, Drew still cusses like a sailor and they seem to love his candor!!!

When we talk to our patients about the three causes of subluxations —Thots, Toxins, & Trauma, it seems like we see vivid examples every day. Had a patient who has been under UC care for 10 years call today explaining that he dumped his mountain bike this weekend,–fractured his jaw, fractured his orbital bone, got a concussion…and still wondered why he needed to be re-x-rayed by us! Physical Trauma to the max! Next is an example of Emotional trauma! Had a patient come in this a.m. with a beautiful scan (almost) which was all green on the left and lower right but 3 huge red bars on the upper right (she is an ASR-but as you know, side of inflammation has little to do with patient’s listing.)  Anyway, she stated that she was doing great, but during a school counseling session regarding her son last Friday she could actually feel her atlas subluxate as she was getting the news of her son’s less-than-stellar academic accomplishments!!!

It Is Imperative That We Accurately Define Upper Cervical

From The Desk of Tom Forest:

forestSeems like the energy in Upper Cervical is ramping up every day.  We had a 3 y/o boy referred in last week by a neurologist who wanted to know what was going on in the upper cervical region. This baby was born with a “safe” C-section. (I say this tongue in cheek as we all remember the excellent video pediatric UC expert and The Power of Upper Cervical star Dr. Julie Mayer Hunt showed at UC Evolution II which revealed the tremendous tractioning and elongation of the neck as a head half the size of the opening is yanked through!)
X-raying him was a real task and I can show you the vertex with two tiny hands on the film as he pushed himself away from the bucky as I anchored his head in place. The posterior arch is rammed against the occiput. This child cried one straight year! Presently he has optic nerve hypoplasia (he is legally blind), epilepsy (100 eye blinks/hour and fist clenching and leg extensions with each seizure), cannot talk, cannot walk due to extreme balance problems. His father died last year and the mom is trying everything to normalize their lives.
It has only been one week following the C-1,2 corrections but he is now walking with his hands against a wall for balance and can open doors now (not sure that is a good thing!) I EXPECT Innate Intelligence to reverse this condition and will accept nothing less!!!

Upper Cervical Needs Differentiation

I feel it is IMPERATIVE that we accurately define Upper Cervical! Dr. Jake Hollowell, who practices in my office and will be operating the UCHC office in Sicily before the end of the year, was talking to a fellow grad who insisted he “does upper cervical” even though he practices Gonstead!
His reasoning: “…we x-ray and adjust the neck,” (along with every other segment in the spine).
Nothing wrong with Gonstead, my uncle has taught the method for 30 years…but it is NOT Upper Cervical. So if you think the public is cloudy on the issue, even our own profession is confused.
My suggestion, have all the heads of UC techniques make up ONE web site which describes Upper Cervical (what we all have in common) and then have a section for each technique to tout their uniqueness. Couldn’t hurt!!!

Upper Cervical Fraud

I hate to give the Atlas Profilax-ATLANTOtec (laypeople thrusting on atlas) any more “pub” than they already have, but since I’m on the subject of defining UC accurately to the public, it needs to be addressed.
Check out Dr. Jim Fiore’s e-mail on the subject which I attached, it is very insightful.
Jim has been practicing excellent UC in the LA area for a couple decades after having attended probably 20 Blair seminars given by Dr. Muncy. When I was Dr. Muncy’s seminar assistant, Jim used to compliment me on my AWESOME skill of turning the lights on & off during the seminar right on cue. He can spot talent!!!
Dr. Ray Drury wrote the president of the Swiss Chiropractic Association regarding sanctions against this Swiss base atlasprofilax and here is what he wrote back:Thank you for your e-mail.We are aware of these activities. Unfortunately nothing can be done in these cases. How do you think BJ Palmer would handle this issue???

Upper Cervical Needs Publicity

One of Dr. Fiore’s best friends is Dr. Dave Topping of Yorba Linda, CA (Richard Nixon’s birthplace!).
Most of you probably know Dave’s story, a full spine DC surfer, who konked his head riding a wave and short term memory, along with a plethora of other symptoms made his life unbearable.
He literally took his x-rays down Pacific Coast Highway from doctor to doctor with no results until he was finally referred to Dr. Kuhn (star of The Power of Upper Cervical.
Dr. Topping had never heard of Upper Cervical  (despite having his DC degree!) but the moment the atlas was corrected, his head cleared and remained that way.
After taking Dr. Muncy’s classes, he immediately converted his busy full spine practice to UC….. and never had one patient transfer!
One of Dave’s patients came in to see me today (a famous retired opera star) and noted that his career would have been cut short without UC care. His nephews are 6′ 10″, 6′ 11″, and 6′ 10″ and claim that UC care is the ONLY thing that keeps their lower back pain free. In fact one of them referred their best friend, a college football player who has been injured for one year due to LB injuries, and he just completed a football season with absolutely no pain!!!

Correction

Last week I announced an excellent interview by Dr. Paul Hambrick Http://www.uppercervicaldocs.com/blog on Dr. Rob Kessinger and stated incorrectly that he was the developer of Knee Chest technique. With apologies to Dr. B.J. Palmer (the originator) and Dr. Michael Kale (who reactivated the method), I do know that Drs. BJ Kale, Ray Drury, Thad Vaugnaiux, Shawn Dill, …also teach this excellent UC technique. Dr. Kessinger deserves our praise because of his dedication, published studies, awesome neurology seminars, missions abroad,…
Speaking at the colleges would also help define UC for the students. Dr. Giancarlo Licata is a CCCLA grad who was introduced to UC by Dr. Drew Hall.

Upper Cervical Research

Greg Buchanan sent me a research article regarding the MS and brain stem hypoxia which I printed last week and here are Dr. Licana’s comments:

The latest research linking MS to venous changes is absolutely exciting.  I’m assuming you know that NUCCA is presently conducting research using phase contrast magnetic resonance angiography and found that venous drainage measurably increased, and venous pressure decreased following a nucca correction!  This was done on a migraine patient and they are preparing to start a larger study.  This opens the door for an entirely new direction in understanding the mechanism of the atlas correction in affecting the brain and body.  There has not been a more exciting time in upper cervical as now.
I attached a copy of the literature from NUCCA, you can pass it on so others can see what else has been discovered about the atlas subluxation.

Dr Giancarlo Licata, D.C.

PS I’m giving a talk to CCCLA students on “New Perspectives in Evidence-based Chiropractic”. I hope to boil down all the latest research and share what that means for the direction of UC and the chiropractic profession as a whole.

Upper Cervical Evangelism

Dr. Thomas Taylor wrote me about a doc he has been trying to convince switch to UC. Here is what he wrote me:
I will introduce you to a seasoned diversified Doctor who is recently attended the UC evolution convention and admitted that in his 30 plus years of practicing, his so called miracle cases had one thing in common. “He somehow bumped the Atlas.” So he got himself a tilting bucky and a chair and head clamps and is going to find out just how he had “bumped” it to see if he can get more miracle cases. He mentioned that he was taught that there are 24 movable bones in the spine and to not ignore them. ..I reminded him that there is only one Brain stem, He said “I never thought of it like that”

Upper Cervical Research Part Deux

Got an e-mail question from UCHC doc, Dr. Ian Bulow in Pittsburgh, asking if I had any research on UC care and type 1 diabetes as he had a patient coming in within hours that wanted this data. Although I have seen some excellent improvement with my diabetic patients, I do not have any studies I have performed myself. To the rescue…Dr. Kirk Eriksen!  I quickly looked through his fantastic book Upper Cervical Subluxation Complex, A Review of the Chiropractic and Medical Literature (which you can obtain at Lippincott (type in eriksen under search) or it can be purchased at any of the chiropractic colleges)  and came up with a pilot study performed by the famous Dr. Marshall Dickholtz, Sr. on six patients that really showed promise.
I am DEMANDING all UC docs and students, get this book! Give up latte’s for a month if you cannot afford it!!!

Upper Cervical Testimonials

How is this for the POWER OF UPPER CERVICAL? Drs. Gerard & Tabitha Liboiron opened a UC practice in Round Rock, Tx (near Austin) and have been seeing some amazing results. Check out the latest and I think you can see how the truth can spread like wildfire:
A medical doctor in South Carolina read “What Time Tuesday?” and referred his Son-in-law who is in the army stationed at Ft. Hood TX to our office.  He had severe pain shooting down both arms and they wanted to kick him out of the army because he was unable to wear his heavy helmet and bullet proof vest….here’s his testimonial: http://www.focusedonyouchiropractic.com/testimonials.html #2 .  Not long after starting care, his pain was all gone and he got his life back.  He later misses an appointment because his wife had a miscarriage.  Next visit I asked him about it and she’s had 3 miscarriages and has never maintained a pregnancy beyond 3-4 weeks.  I insisted he bring his wife in for care and she’s now 26 weeks pregnant.  His pregnant wife then forcibly drives a reluctant co-worker with Meniere’s disease to our office to get adjusted and it goes away on the table at her 1st adjustment.  Meniere’s lady proceeds to tell me about her son-in-law who had a stroke in his brain stem, is in a wheel chair, blind in one eye, etc.  I insisted she bring him in the next day.  I stay late, do his x-rays and adjust him…..on the 45 minute drive home, he proclaims: “I Can See!” His vision came back in his blind eye!!!!   The news found out about it and just did a story tonight…
