Palmer Lyceum Was Great | BJ Palmer on the Radio

WOW, what a great Lyceum at Palmer
Iowa last week. Upper Cervical was highly represented throughout the program. At
the Delt house (see attachment) I met up with Drs. Andy
Roberts and soon to be Dr. Lauren Millman
(008). Lauren is just finishing up at Life College and is writing a paper on a
patient of mine with ‘reflex sympathetic dystrophy’ who has gone from a
wheelchair to the soccer field! Andy also has Drs. Cailen
Wells and Shana McLaughlin in his Detroit
area office all learning from him…they will all go far with that HIO
schooling!
quite a bit of time with Dr. Rick DiGregorio of
Monroe, MI. I even bought him lunch…once I found the tab was all of
$6.00! Anyway, we spent a couple hours checking out his new
digital x-ray conversion system. Here is the scoop! The x-ray pics are hospital
quality. You convert your existing x-ray unit to a ‘direct digital’ via his
bucky system. Films take 7 seconds to go from exposure to computer screen. The
graphic tools allow for NUCCA, AO, Grostic, Blair,…analysis and the line
drawing and angles can be easily accomplished. One excellent feature is the
stereo capacity. Using a 1″ tube shift, the computer automatically offsets the
two stereo films on a special overlapped dual screen monitor and using
simple 3-D glasses (that look like sunglasses) the images really pop out at you.
The stereo BP was like standing over a jack-in-the box as the cranium projected
upwards. The stereo laterals came out in almost a holographic fashion as
you could move your head around and the image would move with you (almost like
the portraits in the Disney Haunted Mansion) Anyway, I think I have Rick
convinced to bring the digital 3-D to FUSION next month so you can get a
personal look at these amazing films…unless you’d rather pay 70 grand for a
new DR system!!!
booth at the Lyceum and showed off his wonderful Tytron Infrared Scanner. He
also had his updated toggle monitor, so I felt it appropriate to challenge Dr.
DiGregorio to a toggle-off. The speeder was smoking after I adjusted,….
crushed after he adjusted…ENUF SAID!!!
to the people at Lloyd Table Co. for years about the need for an easier access
side posture table. A few years ago they developed one that could be raised
straight up horizontally towards the ceiling, which could also then be utilized
as an exam table. They just introduced their new prototype at Homecoming
and here are the pics. Pic 004 is not DD Palmer but Dr.
Lloyd Steffensmeier, who founded of the company in 1963, demonstrating
the table in the middle position….it lowers just as low as the standard Lloyd
side posture table, but can be raised up for taller doctors. Note the headpiece
raises and lowers electronically. This new table can be raised horizontally (pic
007) but also can be raised and lowered like a HiLo for easy access for elderly,
hot low backs,…(pics 005, 006) The guy you see being lowered onto the table is
Dr. Dave Phillips from Minneapolis who used to work
with Dr. Addington in the Blair Clinic and was Dr. Todd Hubbard’s roommate at Palmer (pic 002). Check out
pic 003 as you will see Dave trying to use an inferior line of drive on
BJ!!! (you can get more info on the toggle table by contacting them
at sales@lloydtable.com. Note the
table sells for $10,000 but supposedly $5,000 comes right off your final tax
total due to ADA/handicapped equipment tax benefits.)
While bringing up the subject of B.J., third
generation UC doc, Dr. Meg Banitch of Montclair, NJ
forwarded me this:
Tom. Talk to you next week. Meg
Subj: BJ Palmer on the
Radio
Here is the link…I believe there are four different shows highlighting
actual talks from BJ
As mentioned earlier, great times over at the Delt
house in Davenport as the speakers were amazing and I found it quite
interesting that a large amount of the audience was able to hear the speakers
20 feet away while lounging in the pool! Anyway, one of the brothers in
attendance was Dr. Kevin Leach(pic 010). Kevin
has practiced in the San Marino UCHC office in central Italy. Another UC doc
will be taking that practice over as Kevin moves to the new office in Trapani,
near Venice. Apparently the new office is state-of-the-art and adjacent to the
hospital, making UC research a top priority. If you ever wondered what
starting this whole process of the phenomenal interest in Upper Cervical in
Italy, check out the latest Testimonial Tuesday by Dr.Paul
Hambrick as interviews Dr. Drew Hall. Here
is a brief overview:In this episode, Dr. Hall tells the story of a
lady from Italy who suffered with cerebellar ataxia for 10 years and how an
upper cervical correction changed her life, and how it changed the course of
upper cervical chiropractic in the country of Italy. (www.UpperCervicalDocs.com)
Got to spend quite a bit of time with Dr. Brett Bolton (when he wasn’t roughhousing with his
rugby buddies) Brett is a 3rd generation UC DC. Met his father, Dr. Stanley Bolton, who at one time had 28 UC clinics in
Australia. He regaled me with stories of his HIO education, working at BJ’s
Clearview Sanitarium, and the bright future for Upper Cervical…a delightful
man. Also spent quite a bit of time with Dr. Todd Hubbard, Certified Advanced Blair
Instructor& Palmer Instructor, who just completed his masters in clinical
research. He just sent me this today:I started a female patient on march 31st. Her
main complaints were tremors and migraines. After 4 months of care the
migraines are down from 2-3 per week to less than 1 per month. Her tremors
used to be constant in both hands and are now transient at the most. She can
go 2-3 days were she doesn’t notice any tremor at all. When they do come back,
she can control them by doing her posture exercises we gave her. Her initial
lateral cervical x-ray showed a c-spine curve of 17 degrees. Now, 4 months
later, her c-spine curve is 30 degrees. She has only been adjusted C1 and C2.
No weights or traction or any other adjusting. It goes to show, get the upper
neck right and the rest will take care of itselfI need to get a little serious with you. Dr. James Fiore, super Blair doc from Santa Ana, CA, sent
me a great article by a heart surgeon who readily admits that lowering
cholesterol has had little effect in cardiovascular disease and gives reasons
why this disorder which was rare six decades ago is commonplace now. It
is probably too long of an article to read right now, but read it next time
your are bored…or taking one of my classes!!!If you’d like a little ‘practical health advice’
from an Chinese medical doctor, check out the info below sent to me by Dr. Linda Savage, a UC oriented instructor at Life West.

cases in UC offices. I wrote you a couple weeks ago about an 18 y/o who
had moderate GERD and dysphagia for 3 years being observed and treated
at
Stanford…with minimal results. The first week following the atlas
correction,
the symptoms completly abated and she remains asymptomatic 8 weeks into
care.
Anyway, her 23 y/o brother came in yesterday and mentioned that he flew
over the
handlebars of his bike four years ago. X-raying him required me to
rotate
the chair about 30 degrees to get his head aligned for a good base
posterior.
One of his symptoms is that immediately after the injury, he has lost
his
ability to perspire on the entire left side of his body! Anyway, the
Blair
films revealed a 1/2 mm PIR atlas displacement. Regarding atlas

Seems
that there was an educational time had by all. My stepson who is
12 had ms, severe asthma and chronic ear infections when his mom and I

playing flag football. The tubes in his ears fell out on their own, he
had

weekend!
The cohesiveness of the UC docs is amazing and let me get you the
details:
in Italy)
as he acknowledged a groundbreaking undertaking of UC research upon
which they
have embarked. He introduced Sandro Mandolesi,
M.D. who took us through the very technical research on
vascularity
of the brain stem region and measurable changes in outflow in patient
supine and
upright positions. He discussed the different types of Multiple
Sclerosis as it
relates to disturbed microvacular circulation. The conclusion based
upon four
female MS patients is that it is highly likely that UC subluxations play
a role
in the etiology of MS and correction may have corrective or preventative
potentials….and this isn’t based upon
opinions, it is legitimate
research utilizing the most advance vascular scanning devices currently
available in the medical field! They would like to get 500 to 1,000 MS
patients involved in the study.
Leach (San Marino), and Jake Hollowell
(Sicily) are a great start, but he mentioned 7 other cities (including
the city
many think is the most beautiful in the world…Florence) in which he
would like
to start UCHC clinics in conjunction with his partner, Dr.
Ray Drury. It was great seeing all three of
these
Italia UC docs at the Evolution and know we are really represented by
top notch
dedicated doctors…who also are dedicated at breaking down walls and
getting a
legitimate relationship with these medical
researchers!!!
Gentempo had an excellent talk on the need for accurate equipment
to
detect subluxations and confirm that they have been corrected. If
any
method of health care is to be respected, it MUST be accurate and it
MUST
be reproducible.
Michael Gerber (E-myth author) discussed the concept of marketing
a
reproducible product in an exacting fashion. This well known author
utilized
many corporate examples of running a system in a predictable and
efficient
manner.
Hambrick
covered the methods of educating patients to UC using the electronic
media,
patient communication,…BTW check out Dr. Hambrick’s www.UpperCervicalDocs.com and you will find an episode by Dr. Drew Hall on a very interesting dysphasia
patient.
Dr. Robert Brooks gave an amazing and humorous talk on NUCCA and
he
has a superb website in which the patient can type in their x-ray
listing and
the animated spine moves into that subluxated position.
colleague/friend Dr. Julie Mayer Hunt (see
pic 018)
discussed UC as it relates to kids. She showed the tie in between
erector spinae
muscle rigidity and upper cervical subluxations and explained how
to perform a leg check on a typical six month old…bow legged,
kicking, and screaming. It ain’t easy, but for
Dr. Hunt it
seems effortless.
America
(UCHCA) Billy Doherty gave
a
great presentation on practice management and high tech marketing. Billy
always
presents his high energy talks from a very businesslike vantage
point…making
you think, why didn’t I think of that?

Health Care Reform & Upper Cervical Docs
August 3, 2009 by drhambrick
Filed under Upper Cervical Forest, Upper Cervical in the News
Great things happening in Upper Cervical. It is always interesting to find out what caused the patient’s most recent atlas subluxation. Last week a patient reported to me that on a very hot night with the screened window open, she started sleepwalking and walked out the window, face first onto the redwood deck. So reminded me of those Friday nights at college!!!
Last week I mentioned that Dr. Jeff Gilbert of Des Moines, IA needed a side posture table and Blair headclamps but didn’t include his contact info. Here it is: 515-971-4161 drjeff@gilbertwellness.com
He also wrote me:
“Just got back from a great morning spent with Dr.John Hilpisch. See you next weekend.” If they went to lunch together, you’d better believe John got alligator arms once that check was placed on the table!!!
What he meant by see you next weekend is the Blair Primary Dr. Todd Hubbard Todd.Hubbard@palmer.edu and I are giving on campus this Sat. Hope you can be there and, considering the August Iowa weather, you should be able to exercise those pores rather vigorously!!!
Probably the biggest complaint we hear is, “Where it the UC research?” Here is what is happening on the Palmer Iowa campus according to Dr. Hubbard:
Palmer College is currently recruiting patients for their Blair Upper Cervical care on fibromyalgia patients. This is a feasibility study looking at the outcome of care on patients receiving Blair care verses a sham cervical adjustment.
Dr. Todd Hubbard is waiting to hear any minute if his pediatric cyclic vomiting case report is accepted for publication in The journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. This is a case report of a 7 year old female whose cyclic vomiting episodes were stopped by using the Duff Neural Canal x-ray analysis. The Blair Chiropractic Society teaches the Duff x-ray analysis for pediatric patients.
Dr. Hubbard, Dr. Casey Crisp and Brett Vowels (student) are currently writing a case report on a female epileptic patient whose seizures has have stopped since her Blair care began. Just got this 5 minutes ago:
GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I talked to my graduate committee today. They are going to approve the change of topics for my research. I am now going to do an:
Inter and Intra reliability study on the Blair Upper Cervical Chiropractic X-ray analysis protocol.
This is huge. Basically we will reproduce the Addington study and have it go through because it is my practicum. I will get guidance on writing the manuscript which will guarantee publication. Almost too good to be true.
The support we are getting from the students for UC continues to increase. Check out what Life Blair Club prez Lauren Milman has to say about life on campus:
Another round of a Blair Advanced has just wrapped up here in Marietta! This weekend both Sherman and Life students got together for another great Blair-unifying session! We all are on FIRE and can’t WAIT for the Conference in September! We have so many students currently interested in learning Blair that Dr. Susan Hooper will need to host ANOTHER Advanced course to accommodate the need in October (exact date TBA). We wanted to let all the UC docs around the country know that the UC buzz around the Life campus is continuing to grow. The Blair Club was invited to present our technique to the student body at the first ever Life Technique Night, along with other much MUCH larger clubs on campus (I would have expected them to push us back to Weeks 2 or 3, but the first night makes me excited!!) So the word is being spread.
On behalf of both Sherman and Life Blair Clubs, we look forward to seeing everyone in September!! (at the Atlanta Blair Conference…details www.blairchiropractic.com )
Another future doc super excited about Upper Cervical is Parker student Brandon Harshe and he has some equipment for sale:
- X-ray developer/processor- $500
- Full x-ray unit- includes tilting bucky, standard headclamps (not Blair) 3 viewboxes, free-standing lead shield, x-ray chair, 2 boxes of 14×17 film, cassettes… unit overall is pretty old, but still works fine… $5,000 for everything.
- 3 resting tables, 1 of which is a spinalator- $300
- Hylo Table- needs a little work- $1,000
- Posture Constant Chair- in perfect condition- $500
- DermaThermaGraph- includes box with paper… I have a second
- DermaThermaGraph, but 1 screw has been mutilated and I haven’t been able to remove to replace the paper… if you want it, it’s yours- $150
- 2 Rock Tables- 1 needs hydraulic oil (I think), the other needs the headpiece put back together- $400
Everything is in an air-conditioned storage unit in Fort Worth, TX. This equipment belonged to Sterling Pruitt, Jr for years. His wife sold it to me back in May. Like I said, I am moving away from DFW and will not be using any of this equipment. You will have to come pick it up if you buy it. You can email me atbrandon@theatlasoflife.com if interested. Make sure you check out his great UC site regardless!
While on the subject of UC things for sale, the dynamic Texas UC Orthospinologist Dr. Bart Patzer, tries to keep historic UC practices moving forward to serve lifelong UC patients after the DC passes on. Here are two to think about:
Practice for Sale
San Angelo, Texas
Continue a legacy (doctor retiring) in a beautiful historic building that was built as a chiropractic clinic in 1930. Successful upper cervical practice for sale or available for associateship –to purchase in the great city of San Angelo, TX. Abundance of trees, lakes and friendly hometown environment. Great place to raise a family. Must have experience in Grostic, Nucca, Orthospinonlogy, Atlas Orthoganal, or Blair. Train with one of the top upper cervical specific teams in the world and begin living your dream. Contact BJ Patzer at (512) 619-7267 or email resume to patzer1@flash.net.
Practice for Sale
Lubbock/Floydada , Texas
A legacy continues for this practice of 55 years. Most patients have been coming 30+ years and have always paid cash. The doctor has retired, but patients are still seen by 2 DC’s twice a month. This area was once home to the largest concentrated area of upper cervical doctors in the SW United States. This practice is the last one of those standing. The demand and awareness in this area is high and underserved. It’s always said “the people out here are great, and so friendly. Lubbock is has a large university and is a retail hub for the surrounding agriculture , ranching country. Must have Grostic, NUCCA, Orthospinology, Atlas Orthoganal training, or Blair. Call now for easy , immediate income and regular committed patients to BJ Patzer,DC 512.619.7267 or email at patzer1@flash.net
Dr. John Goodfellow, HIO doc from Chicago, wrote me: “I haven’t added anything to my website in a long long time, but I just uploaded a three page PDF on spinographic interpretation. www.drgoodfellow.com and click on Chiropractic Student. Perhaps this might be of some interest to your students.”
Dr. Patrick Newhouse forwarded an article which I’ve attached which is a “call to action” regarding a Federal Health Bill fundings for psych treatment. I am totally in favor of those in Washington having ANY mental health treatment available!!!
I think I’m being way to happy today, so why not a dose of reality. Dr. Roger Morrison forwarded an e-mail which I’ve attached (OUR FUTURE, OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE) which is a summary of the proposed National Health Care program. Our family was arguing this subject last night as my son-in-law from a country which has National Health Care swears the system can work and that it will mainly be for the impoverished and uninsured with the rest of the system intact. His concern is that unless insurance companies go ‘non-profit’, they can’t be regulated and rates can be set on a whim. Thus they serve the shareholders (maximize profits) vs. the patient (cut costs, cut quality care). He quoted a Texas study which showed 9% of insurance monies actually went to “health care” while the remainder went to “administrative fees”….i.e. CEO portfolios!!!
While on the subject of National Health Care, check out the site Dr. Mike Thompson sent me www.freeourhealthcare.com and you will discover a petition signed already by almost 1 million people aimed at minimizing government takeover of your health care rights. Check it out!
Dr.Bryan Duff, of the famous UC Duff family, is in need of an associate in his Northern California office. Here are his needs: I would greatly appreciate you posting an email that I am looking for 1-2 associates to train/share office SPACE ON OFF DAYS. T/TH/SAT+. for Novato [MARIN OFFICE] STRAIGHT U.C. only of course. You can contact him at BDUFF10203@hotmail.com I listed the wrong address last time I posted this….sorry—must have been subluxated!
Dr. Drew Hall has been seeing some amazing recoveries. Here are the latest:
Had a guy who is an immigration lawyer……..6 months ago he woke up with excruciating sciatica..it got to a point where the pain was so severe they hospitalized him and gave him some narcotic I had never heard of ………It damn near killed the guy. He had a horrible reaction and at one point his family was planning the funeral….. Well he came out of it and was left with a severe head tremor, hands shaking to the point that he was unable to write legibly and still had severe sciatica to the point where he can’t work. Well innate adjusted his atlas and he came back 4 days later with 80 percent reduction in pain. His head tremor was gone and he is pretty much a happy camper!
Forgot to tell you this one also………I have been taking care of this guy for three months……he came in with severe bi lateral leg neuropathy to the point he couldn’t walk for more than 3 minutes without sitting down…. Chronic constipation, allergies, low energy , insomnia etc etc etc He has had one adjustment and has cleared 90 percent of the symptoms….but here is the great part of the story…. he was on his brand new inversion table he bought off the Internet last week at a 70 percent angle the caribeaner broke and he landed upside down on his head/shoulder. I checked him 4 times and could find nothing………. and he wasn’t someone who was off 1/4 of an inch! he was off like 5/8 when he first came in ………..go figure!
So Dr. Fred Harkins called me the other day to tell me a story about a lady who has been under care for about 3 years! I think he said three years….. She has worn bi-focals for 20 years. Well in the past week or so all of a sudden her vision normalized! From what Fred told me they have records from the optometrist and of course that doc said that it was impossible what happened…..Fortunately Innate doesn’t hold the same opinion!!!

Last week I sent you a power point on all the pollution and waste from drinking and packaging bottled water. Alice Whaley, wife of that firebrand retired Chicago UC doc, Dr. John Whaley, wrote me the following: All water purification systems leave a great deal to be desired. Bacteria is one of many problems.
Lake Michigan use to have great water but now with fluoride added (a by-product of industry and
not the natural stuff), it is not good to drink. Also, fluoride is almost impossible to remove from
the water. Dr. Whaley did a radio show on fluoride about 50 years ago. The problems they knew
then are the same today. We get our water from a well (our daughter’s well). Before then, we
would pump our water from a well in the forest preserve.
Here is another Upper Cervical opportunity for an associate/partner:This is DocTOR Ian Bulow with UCHCA Pittsburgh and I am looking for a passionate UC warrior to join me in my mission to “Work with and through HIS design, to restore and maintain health in HIS creations!” If you know such a person, please have them contact me for an interview. Thank you!

Dr. Rob Kessinger has an The Business of Upper Cervical management seminar open to all August 7,8 in Atlanta. Check out the attachment and decide if you can join this principled dynamo in Hotlanta!!!
Upper Cervical Health Centers (UCHC) are holding a seminar that very same weekend, Aug 7,8 in Charlotte, NC. The speakers will include Drs. Vaugniaux, Hilpisch, Drury, Conicello, and Patzer. The subject of the seminar is: GROW YOUR UPPER CERVICAL PRACTICE IN THIS ECONOMIC DOWNTURN. Dr. Hilpisch has promised not to make the arm pit noises he was so famous for while in college!!! (Here is a last minute notice, due to scheduling problems with the speakers, this seminar was rescheduled for Nov. 6,7!)
Dr. Ben Locklear of Mangum, OK forwarded an interesting message which I’ve attached regarding chiropractors being included in U.S. Public Health Service (we should be included but the Surgeon General put us on a back burner!) and forgiving portions of your student loans for serving in impoverished areas…interesting concept. It isn’t a realty yet but nice to know some people are actually using their intercranial tissue in Washington!!!
I probably wouldn’t be grossed out by a slasher movie nowadays as it would probably resemble my less than accurate skills in cadaveric dissection class while at Palmer! A TV show that does gross me out is a new once called Wipeout which shows people slamming their heads into various objects. (Apparently the Japanese version doesn’t allow the contestants to wear pads.) When you see the clips advertising the program you probably will have to turn your head as you start thinking of the physical and emotional illnesses that will occur as a result of this feeble attempt to “entertain!” While on the subject of entertainment, a patient of mine who is 69 and decided to embark on a career as a model/actress, told me yesterday she may have gotten a walk-on roll in a medical series they will be shooting in San Francisco. Her part would be that of a pedestrian who gets hit by a car. We agreed that as the camera pans in closer on her body, her hand will slowly open up showing her firmly grasping my business card!!!
Drs. Patrick and Jackie Newhouse opened their Blair Upper Cervical clinic in Moline, Ill. and they have been seeing dramatic recoveries:
Dr. Forest, here is a cool case. We had a guy come in 4 weeks ago who was somewhat skeptical. He reluctantly sat through my Doctor’s report, and decided it was time to do something about his health. He has had guillian Barre syndrome for the past 30 years and has been living in constant pain. He had trouble walking, trouble urinating and fatigued very easily. After his first adjustment he found he was able to urinate better. After several weeks of care he kept gradually getting better and better. One weekend, he was able to walk at the farmer’s Market in the humid Iowa weather for one entire hour without having to sit down.
Well the past two visits I have seen him, he said for the first time in 30 years he has been completely out of pain!!! Isn’t innate amazing!!!
I asked Patrick about his daughter who was born less than 4 lbs and he has a photo of her sitting in his cowboy boot. No truth to the rumor that the pic shows her plugging her nose! Here is the story:
The story of my daughter Morgan is an interesting one. We delivered her at home (Thank GOD!!) and she came out weighing 3 lbs 10 oz. She was not early either (38 weeks ). She had her power turned on right away, and was an amazingly healthy little princess. The midwife who helped us was somewhat nervous about her small size, and wanted to get a second opinion. I was against it, but reluctantly agreed to have someone give a second opinion to make sure everything was ok. So, on the day she was born we went to a DO in town to give a second opinion. This horse’s ass did the basic checks and then proceeded to tell us how we should have had her in the hospital where she should have been on antibiotics, under a heat lamp, and fed baby formula, etc. (because as you know God screwed up when he made breastmilk and thankfully we have wonderful companies like enfamil and others who make up for His shortcomings). In fact his recommendation was to start feeding her Enfamil!!
We obviously disregarded this clown’s advice and took her home. She ate very well and is as healthy as ever. We are so thankful every single day we knew the Principle and decided to have her at home!!! I shudder to think what would have happened to her if the church of medicine would have been able to get their clutches on her. She probably wouldn’t be here right now. I am not at home right now, but when I get home I will scan you the pictures of her when she was very little and some pictures now.
Dr. Dena King is a Life West grad who practices UC in Novato, CA and sent me the following:Just had to tell you this…I got an “Auntie” who came in and said: “if you can make me feel better, my niece (in her 40′s) will come in (she has MS, fibromyalgia, and a host of too many things to list….she’s had many accidents, 8 surgeries on her back, 2 surgeries on her eyes and “only wants to drive a car again”. She used to race cars.)
Well, “Auntie” said she (herself) has “Sjogrens” the autoimmune dx of dry eyes, mouth, etc (among other things) and numbness/ pain down both arms (particularly the right) and into her back.
After her second adjustment; that evening the “waterworks” in her left eye turned on and was running down her face the rest of the night. She couldn’t believe it and didn’t associate it w/ the adjustment until we talked the next visit. “Oh”; she said, I just remembered! (I’d showed she and her niece your article about “I forgot to remember” ;.) Thank you! (the numbness is gone and the pain 90% reduced! :>))
SO….now the niece is coming in and has been adjusted (first time C1 ASL-ASR and C2 ALS-ARS: – “WOW” I said to myself – “never seen this” I did each listing individually on C2 and the advanced listing for C1 (after studying the guide for what seemed a Looooong! time!…..the second time I just adjusted C1.) They both asked: “so you mean there is a reason I’m like this? The doctors haven’t done anything for me…I get MRI’s almost every six months…. Post 2nd adj. she said: “wow, that hurt so good!” and started laughing and couldn’t stop giggling. It was SOOooo cool Tom! (She hasn’t smiled at all since we met weeks ago.) Here is the latest on this case:PS: “Auntie” is off her 9800mg (yes you are reading that correctly) ibuprofen and is going off her meds for Sjogrens…we’ll see what happens. Her Thermography was in the “red” but her leg challenges/checks were totally clear…bizarre….I did NOT adjust her although I felt so nervous about it!
Dr. Drew Hall and Dr. Beth O’Rourke did a spinal screening at Raleigh Studios, a 22 acre movie studio in Manhattan Beach, CA. They are currently filming Iron Man II, CSI, and 90210 (and many other movies and TV series) at that lot. They got 8 signups and very positive feedback that these screenings could lead to bigger and better things coming out of Hollywood for Upper Cervical!!!
Our Palmer Blair series which was to start Aug.1,2 was cancelled at the last minute which is a bummer as we have been giving three series a year (9 seminars) since 1999 and this is only the third one that didn’t have enough sign-ups. Anyway, Dr. Hubbard and I decided to still do a primary workshop Sat. Aug. 1 as a number of doctors has non-refundable tickets. Todd said:I am setting this up for just one day, Saturday August 1st. We are
charging $50 for students and $200 for doctors. You can contact him for registration at Todd.Hubbard@palmer.edu.
Speaking of Dr. Hubbard, he informed us via our last Blair Conference call that there is a federal stimulus program you that may interest you. Here is what he wrote me:
Here is the website for DCs to learn about the $44,000 they can receive from Obama’s stimulus package. It is part of the National electronic health care records.
There is a 1 hour seminar explaining the entire thing.

Dr. Drew Hall sent me this note on the Blair conference to convey to UC students and docs regarding the Blair Conference:(see attachment)
BLAIR ANNUAL SEMINAR IN ATLANTA
GEORGIA SEPT. 18TH AND 19TH
Students and colleagues,
If you have not registered for the Blair annual in Atlanta please do so. To register go to www.regonline.com/blair2009. The event is going to be held at the BRAND new W Hotel. We have secured our keynote speaker, Kirk Eriksen fiery Upper Cervical Doctor, Researcher, and Leader within our ranks. Kirk will bring back the fire for why you have chosen to do what you do. Please come and support the Blair work by attending. There is great power in being around like minded individuals with a common purpose.
For the students; there are still a few free rooms left, but they are going quick. I would appreciate it if the students could spread the word at their schools. Can some of you please email me back that are interested in spreading the word? I will have a PDF file to print some flyers about the Conference that can be distributed here shortly. Thanks for your support.
WE WILL NOT BE DENIED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, to end things on a light note. Many of you docs back east think that we Californians are a little lax when it comes to disciplining our children. We are tough as nails. One of my daughter’s high school classmates is sternly restricted for bad grades, curfew offenses,… The parents take away her Range Rover….and make her drive the BMW!!!
Take care-
Tom
It Is Imperative That We Accurately Define Upper Cervical

From The Desk of Tom Forest:
Seems like the energy in Upper Cervical is ramping up every day. We had a 3 y/o boy referred in last week by a neurologist who wanted to know what was going on in the upper cervical region. This baby was born with a “safe” C-section. (I say this tongue in cheek as we all remember the excellent video pediatric UC expert and The Power of Upper Cervical star Dr. Julie Mayer Hunt showed at UC Evolution II which revealed the tremendous tractioning and elongation of the neck as a head half the size of the opening is yanked through!) Upper Cervical Research
The latest research linking MS to venous changes is absolutely exciting. I’m assuming you know that NUCCA is presently conducting research using phase contrast magnetic resonance angiography and found that venous drainage measurably increased, and venous pressure decreased following a nucca correction! This was done on a migraine patient and they are preparing to start a larger study. This opens the door for an entirely new direction in understanding the mechanism of the atlas correction in affecting the brain and body. There has not been a more exciting time in upper cervical as now.
I attached a copy of the literature from NUCCA, you can pass it on so others can see what else has been discovered about the atlas subluxation.
Dr Giancarlo Licata, D.C.
PS I’m giving a talk to CCCLA students on “New Perspectives in Evidence-based Chiropractic”. I hope to boil down all the latest research and share what that means for the direction of UC and the chiropractic profession as a whole.
Upper Cervical Evangelism
I will introduce you to a seasoned diversified Doctor who is recently attended the UC evolution convention and admitted that in his 30 plus years of practicing, his so called miracle cases had one thing in common. “He somehow bumped the Atlas.” So he got himself a tilting bucky and a chair and head clamps and is going to find out just how he had “bumped” it to see if he can get more miracle cases. He mentioned that he was taught that there are 24 movable bones in the spine and to not ignore them. ..I reminded him that there is only one Brain stem, He said “I never thought of it like that”

Upper Cervical Testimonials
A medical doctor in South Carolina read “What Time Tuesday?” and referred his Son-in-law who is in the army stationed at Ft. Hood TX to our office. He had severe pain shooting down both arms and they wanted to kick him out of the army because he was unable to wear his heavy helmet and bullet proof vest….here’s his testimonial: http://www.focusedonyouchiropractic.com/testimonials.html #2 . Not long after starting care, his pain was all gone and he got his life back. He later misses an appointment because his wife had a miscarriage. Next visit I asked him about it and she’s had 3 miscarriages and has never maintained a pregnancy beyond 3-4 weeks. I insisted he bring his wife in for care and she’s now 26 weeks pregnant. His pregnant wife then forcibly drives a reluctant co-worker with Meniere’s disease to our office to get adjusted and it goes away on the table at her 1st adjustment. Meniere’s lady proceeds to tell me about her son-in-law who had a stroke in his brain stem, is in a wheel chair, blind in one eye, etc. I insisted she bring him in the next day. I stay late, do his x-rays and adjust him…..on the 45 minute drive home, he proclaims: “I Can See!” His vision came back in his blind eye!!!! The news found out about it and just did a story tonight…
3 Sure-Fire Strategies to Prevent the Swine Flu & Upper Cervical

I’m posting this article because I found it very interesting, particularly because an upper cervical study was used as a reference.
The article doesn’t mention upper cervical chiropractic outright, and you have to search for the fine print in the references section, but it’s there.
Most interesting of all however, is the comments section.
Dr. Wegmann, from a layman’s point of view is very provocative with this article.
Make sure you read the comments.

Upper Cervical Specifically Cited As Dangerous By PTs

Have you seen this from the Seattle Times?
At least the law states that PTs may not perform chiropractic adjustments, but is this another step towards phasing out any association between chiropractors and MDs?
The PT organizations also alluded to “…concerns raised of injury resulting from manipulation of the upper cervical spine. By contrast, within the physical therapy profession studies have been published on effective methods for addressing neck pain by manipulating the thoracic spine, where less risk exists.”
Sounds like they are doing all they can to alienate us and cow towing to the MDs.
Objective efficacy studies, like the one conducted by Dr. Kirk Eriksen, are more necessary now than ever before.
Upper Cervical To Utilize CT Imaging
December 19, 2008 by drhambrick
Filed under Upper Cervical in the News
Years ago, when I was practicing in Sarasota, FL, I came in contact with a neuromuscular dentist who was showing me around his office.
These dentists are specialists who are focused on cosmetics, but their work has much farther reaching capabilities in that their patients often see relief of migraines and breathing problems… all by changing the way the teeth come together.
Most of these dentists are trained at the Las Vegas Institute, and at one time, they were encouraged to seek out upper cervical doctors because it was determined that getting the atlas corrected greatly complemented the neuromuscular dental work they were performing on their patients.
So anyway, this dentist was showing me his office, and he showed me an amazing piece of equipment.
It was a Mini CT scanner that took up about 6 square feet of office space, had a chin rest, and head clamps.
One press of a button, and you get a full 3D image of the patients head and cervical area.
The pictures were unbelievable, and the software looked very similar to the upper cervical analyzing software that was just coming out for digital xray.
I couldn’t believe that upper cervical doctors weren’t all over this, but no upper cervical doctor I talked to had heard anything about it.
I tried to get doctors and even a well known upper cervical imaging rep interested in this instrument, but no one seemed to care.
Well then, this week, Dr. Tom Forest’s weekly email had this blurb from Dr. Ray Drury of the Upper Cervical Health Centers:
The talk was great. We had three M.D. get up and say things in favor of UC that I never thought I would witness in my life time. One said that “As medical doctors they are excellent at giving a patient a diagnosis but maybe they weren’t so good at getting their patients well. That UC seems to do a better job of helping patients get well and that they need to embrace this “new” technology and work with the UC docs in order to help more people.” The head MD told the story of an MD in the 1880′s that stood up against his own profession and pointed out a mistake that was commonly made by MD’s in the delivery of babies that caused the babies and often the mothers to die. He was ridiculed by his profession, his license taken away and he was committed to an insane asylum where he later died. He said this cannot happen again. He acknowledged that this was like declaring war on his own profession. But, if the patient’s better interest was the most important, then they have to acknowledge that UC is better at helping people get well of a wide variety of conditions than medicine. He also stated that Dr. Drury had taught him things about the body and the nerve system that he did not know. Such as the body could heal itself naturally as long as the brain stem and the nerve system was clear of interference. Pretty incredible coming from a highly decorated MD.
He and I are partnering up to open the first UCHC of Italy in Rome. It should be open in February. We are going to use the seated 3-D CAT scan on our patients and he wants to start with an MS research project. This research project will start in San Marino and we’ll continue it in the Rome office. His name along with another MD and the UC docs participating in the study will be on the study. He expects this to be published in medical journals all over the Europe (maybe in the US as well.) He is also a board member of the most prestigious medical school in Europe. All pretty unbelievable stuff!
Finally, it looks like upper cervical care is entering a new frontier.
I hope to interview Dr. Drury soon and ask him about the CT scan.

On the tv show The Doctors, on November 25th they featured atlas orthogonal doctor Patrick Kerr of New York City.
This is the second time Dr. Kerr has been featured on a national TV show as he is Montel Williams chiropractor, and was featured on that program as well a few years ago.
