I think I may need to start taking a Vince Lombardi tough guy attitude regarding my employees. Palmer intern Jason Blackketter has been doing a great job learning the nuances of an Upper Cervical practice but last Thursday from about 1:00 to 3:00 my associate Dr. Tiger Cox searched the whole office trying to find Jason so he could perform a re-exam and could not find him. At about 3:00 Jason came out staggering down the hallway with his hair shooting out in all directions. Apparently he laid down in the rest area at lunch and slept for two and a half hours!!!
Dr. Kevin Broome has a UCHC practice in Anderson, South Carolina and check out what he said regarding his grand opening: Had a great time last night. 107 showed up of the 139 rsvp’s. About 40 patients came out in support and gave some great testimonials and we signed 42 NP’s, two future speaking engagements and then signed up three more this morning. What a blessed night! Kevin also sent me two x-rays, one of which I’ve attached and here is what he wrote: The two images attached are yet another reason we have to take films. After an extensive case history, examination we determined that the patient did have an upper cervical subluxation. We went to take our films and after the lateral was taken I went to measure the s-line and noticed the opacity located below the eye. I asked the patient if he was aware of this and he stated, “oh yeah, forgot to tell you that I tried to kill myself in 2000 and the .22 is still lodged in there, they didn’t want to take it out”. He had suffered from severe depression and the steroids and anti-depressants took its toll on my patient, but he still forgot to mention it!
If you haven’t added Dr. Broome to your referral list, here is his information: Dr. Kevin Broome

I try not to be a conspiracy guy, but it sure seems like the government is intruding into our private lives at an alarming rate. Dr. Dennis Campbell sent me this very interesting “cash for clunkers” report from Fox News (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqfuZ7hiap0 )and their lawyer Kimberly Guillford (sp) (the ex-wife of the current SF mayor) shows that when you log on to cars.gov and you check the “agree” box on the Privacy and Security Agreement it states “When logged on to the CARS system, your computer is considered a Federal computer system and is the property of the U.S. Government. Any and all uses of this system and all files on this system may be intercepted, monitored, recorded, copied, audited, inspected, and disclosed… Glad they didn’t have this cash for cluckers system when I was in college, I just loved having to park on Brady Hill and pop the clutch rolling down the hill every day!!! (yes it was a two way street back when I was a student, …lots of horses and buggies too!)
While on the subject of ongoing government fiascoes, check out “Obama’s healthcare bill”which I’ve attached that was forwarded by Dr. Dave Phillips. Dave was a roommate with Dr. Todd Hubbard while they were students at Palmer but I’m saving all the juicy stuff for when I run out of material. What do you mean I ran out of material six months ago???
Now back to Upper Cervical! Dr. Daniel Clark, the star of The Power of Upper Cervical and UC poster and pamphlet guru has kindly been donating his excellent educational material to chiropractic colleges for years. Here is his latest:
We though you would like to know:
Life University has requested and we will gift copies of all our Upper Cervical illustrations (10)
for their new exciting Upper Cervical program (check out the attachment Purpose….)
Somehow the concept of “ADJUST IT AND LEAVE IT ALONE” has been lost in much of our profession. Dr. Roger Morrison sent me an article of a California Chiropractic Board action in which they revoked the license of a DC who claimed to cure fibromyalgia. ( I have no challenge with the idea that neck adjustments dramatically help fibro…I do have an issue with the # of adjustments!) The number of neck manipulations per patient ranged from 60-143!!!
Speaking of Dr. Morrison, he sent me a brain teaser titled Coffee Anyone as he must know my weakness for that soaked bean! It is designed to determine how the right half of your brain is developed. Reminds me of that old joke where a guy was going to get a brain transplant and refused Einstein’s, Edison’s, and Tesla’s brain only select a politician’s brain….why? It has never been used!!!
Dr. Dennis Campbell is still in the process of getting used to his Direct Digital unit from American X-ray and says the images are getting clearer by the week as he tweaks things here and there. Last week he got this interesting patient in for care and here is what he found: Had a 9 year patient with seizures since birth. the seizures got so bad and frequent the MD’s had him on two tegratol daily, which simply slowed them to two seizures (violent) daily. The mother did not like the fact the seizures were getting more violent and she didn’t like the side effects of the tegratol. Adjusted him Wednesday the 5th, when I saw him Friday, mother reported that he only had one minor seizure on wed afternoon and Thursday, when I saw him this Monday afternoon, mother reported no seizures for Fri, Sat., Sun., or today Mon). Great stuff.
Dr. Jack Truong of Elk Grove, CA has been providing care for a number of Hmong patients and it seems that a high % of them have diabetes. Here is his latest case: She has been in my office for about 5 weeks now and she is having her re-exam done today. Her headaches have decreased significantly and her glucose levels have dropped from 200 to around 100 on average.
Some of you reported to me that you only got the beginning and end of the story regarding a case in Dr. Fred Harkin’s office. So here is a rehash: Had a patient come back in for care who reported he has had over 3 1/2 million spent on 26 surgeries etc – they told him there was no help, they couldn’t help him, and they should not have done what they did which included removing some scalene muscles. They also told him according to his report that most patients like him eventually commit suicide and he likely would. He had been a patient prior to 2001 when they got into the most of this. After being adjusted he immediately had better movement in his neck and reported a great decrease in pain. He reports that he is about a level 3 down from 10 on the scale and was laughing and joking with us. Dr. Johnny Truong was there to hear this – actually he was telling Johnny the story. This of course going to run him about $ 450 for the first two months on the present follow up plan. Bythe way he was little sore from throwing hay during the week to feed animals.
Let’s see $450 vs. $3.5 million…I think I know how to fix the deficit!!!
Dr. Jake Hollowell who practices in my office was back in North Carolina visiting family last week as he is in the process of wrapping things up stateside as he prepares to head off to Sicily in September. Dr. Ray Drury called him while relaxing on the beach in Sicily and announced that the UCHC office will be adjacent to the hospital, staffed by the hospital, take 3-D CT Upper Cervical films (including Blair views) and to top it off, they just hired a very attractive interpreter to work along side Jake. Don’t know why he is so excited about this venture???
I fly off tomorrow to Davenport and hope to meet with everyone Upper Cervical I can. I will be meeting with Dr. Rick DiGregorio of Monroe, MI as I want to find out his progress on the direct digital x-ray system and 3-D hologram he has been developing for the past 5 years. I’ll drop by Delta Sigma Chi and listen to Reggie, Jon Schwartzbauer, Andy Roberts,.. and probably streak Brady Street…just like the old days!!!
Take care-
Tom
